Location

Fort Direction is situated approximately 40 km South East of Hobart at South Arm, a small beachfront retreat. Fort Direction offers the holiday-maker boating, fishing, swimming, tennis, hiking and camping in a relaxing, stress free environment.

Facilities

The accommodation consists of two older style brick houses. Casuarina Cottage is a four-bedroom, ensuite house that sleeps 10. Shear Water Cottage is a three-bedroom house that sleeps eight.

All facilities, other than linen and towels, are provided. Food, necessities, petrol etc can be purchased from the General Store located 1 km away in South Arm.

Eligibility

Those eligible to stay in the Army units are as follows:
  • Army - Regular and Reserve
  • Navy - Regular and Reserve
  • RAAF - Regular and Reserve
  • Retired Defence Personnel
  • Defence Civilians
  • Family of the above (only when member stays)
  • Defence Contractors, Staff of ADCU, Defcredit, DHA and Emergency Services
You will be required to verify your eligibility by providing your Service/PMKeys number, rank and current unit (where applicable) during the booking process. This information will be checked upon receipt of your deposit.

Tariffs and Seasons

Current rates are as follows:
Shear Water Cottage (sleeps 8) Nightly (up to six nights) Weekly

Casuarina Cottage (sleeps 10) Nightly (up to six nights) Weekly

Bookings

BOOKING PRIORITY:
  1. All Australian Regular Army Personnel - bookings 9 months in advance,
  2. All other eligible categories - 6 months in advance.

A 25% deposit will be required to secure the booking, and the balance of the tariff must be paid prior to the stay.

Pets

Pets are welcome, however they must be confined to cottage yards or restrained on a leash. Furthermore, it is against health regulations to allow pets inside the cottages. Persons failing to observe these guidelines will be required to pay for all cleaning costs and/or damages made by pets.
